Population and Sustainability Network

The Network aims to build far closer collaboration between the different sectors of development, reproductive health and environment.

We welcome comments and endorsement of the following principles:

  • In any country, poverty cannot be relieved long-term without increased per-person energy and resource consumption; and therefore
  • ‘Sustainable’ and ‘development’ are words that can truly go together only when the issue of population – is also addressed: always wisely, compassionately, and democratically.
  • Therefore, since effective population planning is crucial to sustainable development, high priority should be given to reproductive health services that empower women to make their own choices by ensuring contraception is readily available if wanted.
  • That equal importance needs to be given to the impact of unsustainable per capita consumption patterns in the majority or developed world.

These issues should be accorded a high priority in policy agendas if issues of poverty mitigation, social deprivation and environmental degradation are to be effectively tackled.

If you agree with the above principles, please 'sign' our Visitors' Book by giving us your contact details, which we will not pass on to any third party.

We would also welcome any comments on the website or our activities in general.

If you do not want your contact details to be visible in the guestbook to other visitors, please tick the 'private' message box.

Thank you.
